Coaches

Omnia Performance exists to prove that strength and endurance can co-exist, and to help you actualise that reality.

Jonathan Pain and Fergus Crawley bring together significant expertise on hybrid methodology, both as athletes and as coaches. With a depth of experience in concurrent training goals, we work together to build, analyse and recalibrate your programming, to provide you with the roadmap and support for you to meet your goals.

We have now broadened our team to serve as many aspiring hybrid athletes as possible, having onboarded and developed the entire Omnia Performance Coaching team to the highest standard.

Fergus Crawley

Having competed in a variety of sports from a young age, Fergus Crawley has spent his life in pursuit of athletic performance.

Having focused on Rugby throughout his teenage years, a series of concussions turned him to the pursuit of individual performance goals. Fergus naturally fell into concurrent training given his love for variety and challenge, and quickly refocused on the pursuit of triathlons, running performance, strength sports and bodybuilding.

As Fergus completed his degree at Durham University, he specialised and excelled as a powerlifter, competing internationally for several years. Fergus continued to excel in strength sports and specialised in this arena until more recently switching focus back to Hybrid performance, and forging a path for others.

Fergus shared his experience with mental health, and a suicide attempt, publicly in 2018, and has since used his athletic pursuits as a channel to raise funds and awareness for this cause, and has raised almost £100,000 for Movember through a variety of strength and endurance challenges.

Over the course of the past 3 years, Fergus has dedicated himself to studying and personifying the nature of true concurrent training, with his world record outcomes and impressive feats of strength and endurance standing as testament to that dedication.

A student of both the UKSCA and NSCA syllabus, Fergus has now coached scores of athletes as they endeavour to push beyond their boundaries and apply the principles he embodies.

Working closely with military operatives, Fergus has a keen interest and experience in preparing candidates for selection in various levels of military and law enforcement. This is alongside the everyday athletes, those branching into more concurrent goals, and those taking on charity challenges.

He also hasn’t gone a week without eating pizza since 2016.

Jonathan Pain

Jonathan Pain, an NSCA Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist and a Performance Nutritionist (working towards a PhD in the latter), has worked in the industry for over fifteen years and worked with hundreds of clients in many different fields. Jonathan has also written and taught the Strength and Conditioning Degree Program at the University he studied at. Whilst looking after the needs of professional sportsmen and women, he has built up an impressive roster of athletes from a variety of sports.

Jonathan has produced national champions and podium finishers in powerlifting, weightlifting and triathlon. However, it is in the field of combat sports that Jonathan spent much of his career. Initially competing on the underground and unlicensed circuits, Jonathan sought out the mentorship of experts in the field of self protection and then went on to cross train in the martial arts practicing the striking and grappling arts in as many disciplines as were available.

Competing in Jiu-Jitsu and MMA whilst maintaining a strong discipline of Strength and Conditioning and Nutrition, Jonathan established himself as a standout practitioner in his field.

Although persistent injury stopped Jonathan competing, he has since gone on to work with international standard amateur and professional boxers, world champion jiu-jitsu players, MMA fighters competing at the highest possible level and Olympic and Commonwealth Judo players. Jonathan has been appointed as Strength and Conditioning Coach and consultant to boxing’s elite working with Billy Joe Saunders and Tyson Fury as well as top UFC contenders.

Working closely with military operatives internationally, Jonathan has a keen interest and a great deal of experience in preparing candidates for specialist selection in military and law enforcement settings. He is also Scotland’s only certified instructor in Geoff Thompson’s reality based combat system.

Competitively, Jonathan now concentrates on setting endurance firsts and has taken part in some of the worlds toughest extreme ultra-endurance events.

As a father of 4 children he sees it as a nice bit of down time.

Jamie Crawley

From a young age, Jamie has competed in a variety of sports, but specialised in cricket, leading to him becoming a professional cricketer in 2021. Alongside this, Jamie has been ruthlessly engaged in his fitness, specifically with concurrent training and the balance of strength and endurance.

Jamie graduated from Loughborough University with a degree in Sport And Exercise Science, writing his final year dissertation on the different methodologies of altitude training and their varying effectiveness. Along the way, Jamie has tackled various physical challenges, including a 100km ultramarathon, a 13 hour sled push, deadlifting 500lb and running a sub 5 minute mile in the same day, and more. These athletic pursuits have helped him raise over £10,000 for Movember, focusing on awareness for men’s mental health.

Throughout the past few years, under Jonathan and Fergus’s guidance, he has been programming for, and supporting athletes from a variety of backgrounds. This, coupled with his wealth of practical experience coaching in sport, leaves him now well-exceeding the mark to join our ranks.

Having gained a wealth of experience from the pursuit of professional sport and travelling all over the world in doing so, Jamie has a keen interest in helping people to reach their goals, no matter how big or small. Jamie is also passionate about the outdoors and is currently training to become a Mountain Leader.

James Blanchard

James Blanchard, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and Sports Nutritionist, is equipped with over 15,000 hours of experience training clients with powerlifting, sport performance, endurance and body composition goals.

As a young man, a mental health crisis led to him seeking help, and in doing so, he was introduced to training. This was crucial in his recovery and recognising the value of this sparked a lifelong interest in coaching and a desire to help others improve their mental and physical state, in whatever form that takes.

He has tried his hand at a variety of sports, originally favouring the strength and power side of things, most notably gaining entry into the talent pathway for GB Skeleton and holding numerous records in powerlifting. More recently, he has swapped his track spikes for a nicely cushioned pair of running shoes and has adapted to the challenge of concurrent training, combining a strength focus with improving his endurance performance. Having successfully adapted to the demands of ultra-marathon endurance alongside his powerlifting performance, James now has goals of ticking off the elusive 666 Challenge (running a sub-6-minute mile, 600lb squat, 600lb deadlift) as well as hitting a sub-90-minute half marathon concurrently.

Having 15 years of industry experience, the proud owner of two gyms, and an early adopter of online coaching, he has been gifted with the unique opportunity to work with a wide variety of clients, including professional boxers, rugby players, Ironman triathletes, international powerlifters as well as figure competitors and bodybuilders.

James loves nothing more than assisting others in going above and beyond their own expectations, especially those who once upon a time considered themselves as “not built for cardio”, only to find themselves enjoying tallying up the miles across the week whilst excelling at their strength goals.

With his infectious enthusiasm for improving human performance along with an evidence and data driven approach (and a sometimes concerning obsession with a spreadsheet), you can be sure that with James in your corner, you’ll be well on your way to being “hybrid AF”.
