 Bio

Hi, I'm Phil.

I got my first gym membership the day I turned 16 (that was the minimum age back then. I was obsessed with Men's Health magazines and everything about training.

Then I ruptured my ACL in a weightlifting competition which turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to me.

This is what led me down an academic route, eventually to my PhD in bioengineering, and taught me crucial lessons about resilience that I carry with me today.

These days, I call myself more of a generalist than a hybrid athlete. I train so I have the physicality to take on multiple sports – not to excel in just two, but to be ready for whatever my kids want to try. Because that's what drives me now: showing my boys that movement is joyful, that sport builds character, and that there's always more to learn.

I still play rugby because I want them to experience that community, that shared struggle that only team sports can provide. And yes, I still fire up the N64 whenever I get the chance (life peaked when GoldenEye came out, and I'll die on that hill).

After burning out post-PhD (and I mean properly burning out, had to change career paths entirely), I learned that sustainability matters more than intensity. Hard training still teaches you something about yourself that nothing else can, but it has to fit within a life that includes family, work, and the occasional Mastodon album at full volume.

What drew me to OMNIA was simple: integrity. Everyone involved with the brand is transparent, physically impressive, and they understand that we're still only scratching the surface of what hybrid training can be.

In recent times I’ve published a book, The Science Of Hybrid Training, raised two boys who are developing faster than I can keep up with, and had the chance to consult with some incredible athletes.

My role here isn't to have all the answers. It's to help people realize we still have a lot to learn about this stuff, and that the journey of discovery is half the fun. Whether you're dealing with setbacks, starting over, or trying to balance big goals with real life, I'm here to help you see that adaptation isn't just possible – it's inevitable when you approach it right.

Just don't ask me to put down the N64 controller during our sessions.
